Although she puked (modestly) again at about 6:30, Eli has been deemed well enough for a transfer from PICU to the general pediatrics wing—an auspicious sign, provided Lia and Eli don’t get stuck sharing a room like they did last time. Eli was delighted to see Julia tonight, flashing her big sister her first real smile of the day (though Julia was, however interested in Eli, more urgently interested in making her way to the playroom). The evening was also brightened by news that the Cougs actually came through with a 49-24 win over Tulsa; we may be willing yet to confess that the block “Y”s on our shirts reveal us Cougars, not Yalies. Eli’s infection, we are told, is gone, but she still needs to be patrolled for several days to ensure that her system is entirely clean before they put in another shunt. We again express gratitude for having “Nin” here; I find myself well fed and ensconced in a near-spotless apartment, wondering how all this came about in Lia’s absence.
It is now 10:11 p.m. and my composition of this post was interrupted by a surprise visit from Julia making a clandestine escape from bed. She gave Nin a kiss and me a hug, and then I tucked her back in to bed; she requested meekly that I not close her door all the way this time.
