Hello, World!

We are very happy to report that Elinor Beatrix arrived 5 July 2018 at 7:27 a.m. She was one week past her due date, which may have contributed to her weighing in at a hefty 8 lbs 11 ounces.  Taken together with her 20 inch sprawl, she is quite the little bundle of delight!  We are so glad she is here safe and sound.

Six sounds like a lot, but that picture of all my beautiful people doesn't look like that many to me.

Already a week old, we nevertheless need to recognize some heroes of this pregnancy before we move on to what has transpired in the last seven days.  First:
this guy.  Justin is the most fabulous husband and father in the whole universe.  That's not one scheduled midnight induction you see in those tired eyes.  That's nine months of solo bedtimes, 6:30 a.m. seminary with the big girls, morning home school math sessions with Elisabeth and Katharine, evening drives to Irish dance, laundry duty, little kid bath times, Bishopric, Scoutmaster, and so forth and so forth and so forth.  (I've set myself a ten minute limit so I can't wax too rhapsodic.)  This may have been the easiest pregnancy for me because it was the hardest for Justin.  I love you, Justin!!!!

Next in line for hero status: Julia.  This wonder woman, who admittedly doesn't like cereal all that much, but could have contented herself with instant oatmeal, made a cooked breakfast for the family almost every morning the last nine months.  Pancakes, waffles, crepes, even biscuits and french toast.  It was glorious to wake up to the smell of deliciousness that I hadn't made!  And she would usually mix up the pancake batter before personal scripture study, unloading the dishwasher, New Testament seminary with Dad, violin practice, not to mention getting ready for her junior high day all before we actually ate breakfast at 7:30.  She helped in a thousand other ways and was constantly asking what she could do to help or just doing things to help.  Julia definitely helped make this the easiest pregnancy ever!

We of course can't forget this hero: Elisabeth. This girl just has a way with little kids, and I could not have made it through the last nine months without Elisabeth keeping Abdiel and Gwyndelin helped and happy.  She thinks of crazy games for them that keep them laughing, reads stories to them in inimitably goofy voices (though once Elisabeth has set the standard we all forever after have to follow), and has a way of coaxing Sunday morning cooperation out of even the most intractable Gwyndelin.  Many people pitied my pregnant-bellied, five-children, 9 am church, husband-in-the-bishopric status over the last nine months, but with Elisabeth in my corner, I was really spending the whole morning drying my hair and doing my make-up!

Believe it or not, this hero squad has not yet all been named.  This pregnancy would certainly never have made it through so pleasantly without the help of this little hero: Katharine.  Ms. Katharine could also be invisi-girl.  She wasn't as brash with her superpowers as some of our other heroes, but Katharine never failed to set the book she was reading aside in order to set the table or clean up dinner or read to Gwyn or help Abdiel find a coloring page on the computer or to quickly and efficiently get her homeschool work done or to just generally do her duty either without being asked or with quick obedience.  Katharine was also a marvelous help and buddy in the last months of the pregnancy when Justin, Julia, and Elisabeth all had to go to Mutual or other youth activities.  She put on pajamas and brushed teeth, read bedtime stories and found sippy cups, all with a helpful smile.  And that is not mentioning her Sunday morning help, her Barbie games, her Studio C reenactments with Abdiel and Gwyndelin, and lots of other fun little kid times.  So grateful for this hero!

Abdiel and Gwyndelin were heroes, too, but in a different way.  They have been absolutely THRILLED at the prospect of a new playmate.  They have hugged and kissed my belly many times a day, sang songs to it, read stories to it, made up poems for it, and generally exulted that "Junioretta" would soon be joining our family.  (We didn't reveal the name until Elinor actually arrived, but we had to call that belly something!)

At fifteen minutes over my allotted ten minute time, this post will be continued.
