We tried a little harder to celebrate Pioneer Day this year after hearing a talk in Sacrament Meeting that mentioned a now-Utahn woman from Chile who always celebrates pioneer day since it was through those people that her family heard the gospel. We already had a temple trip to Manti planned with the ward youth, but serving in the nearest available pioneer-era temple the week of Pioneer Day took on a little more significance.
While Justin took the big kids and compatriots down south, Lia took the little kids to the library.
The whole family joined the BYU watch party of the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics at the Kennedy Center. It confirmed Elisabeth's desire to study International Relations.
Abdiel began what we hope will be an injury-free career in tackle football this week. Just recently as we were picking him up from practice, Elinor noted: "Oh, I see Abdiel. I can tell by his look: he's so buff." He does indeed look like some Spartan warrior in full fear.
Elinor has turned into Lia's special car wash helper. She worked hard getting the Sienna ready to sell--and which sold in answer to her prayer that we sell the Sienna "TODAY!" and she helped prep the Super Van for its trek to Manti. She was rewarded for her efforts with a half price shake from Sonic. After finishing about half, she told Lia she couldn't finish the rest. "That's okay, you can just put it in the outside freezer so no one sees it and finish it tomorrow." "Well I was actually thinking," said Elinor a little shyly, "that I could put it into four cups for all the little kids to share the rest." 😍🥰

Gabriel likes to pretend he's Izma from Emperor's New Groove when we eat cucumbers.
We made homemade butter, homemade bread, homemade ice cream and weeded to celebrate Pioneer Day. The kids think Lia needs some lessons in what a holiday means.
