Tuesday 9:30 a.m. ET

Eli and Lia both enjoyed their best night's sleep of their whole long hospital stay. Eli slept from about midnight till seven this morning. Eli is still doing pretty well, but she did throw up a couple of times; we don't yet know how normal that is or whether it will effect her homecoming time. So far as we know, she should still come home today, perhaps this afternoon. Lia's worried that repeated blood pressure readings did something to agitate Eli. One nurse inexplicably took six such readings in a row yesterday, and Lia says Eli has been much more irritable ever since. We've been much less impressed by the pediatrics nurses than by the PICU nurses. Only once have the nurses responded promptly when Lia has pressed the call for help button, which was fortunately after the second and most serious of Eli's vomiting episodes.
Last night, Julia started calling my name repeatedly about 10:15. When I went in to see what was the matter, she climbed out of her bead, walked up to me, and whispered, "I slept so well"--a phrase she utters almost every morning and which she employed on this occasion in an evident effort at hoodwinking her unsuspecting daddy into thinking that the entire night had passed without his knowing it, that it was now morning and time to play. Unfooled, I tenderly sent her back to bed but ended up having to go to bed myself to convince Julia that I was serious about this sleeping business.
